How a Sunset Snorkel Works
Four simple steps to your booking.
Check in 30 minutes early
Rum and Reggae checks in at the Fury booth on the pier behind Opal Key Resort & Marina, 241 Front Street. Bring photo ID.
Snorkel in daylight
The boat sails to a reef the captain chooses for the conditions, and you snorkel while the light is still good.
Back aboard, the bar opens
Fury serves no alcohol until snorkeling is over. Then it is rum punch, beer, wine and champagne.
Sail home with the sunset
The sail back is the sunset part. Bring a dry layer: you will be wet and the boat is moving.

Which Sunset Snorkel Trip to Book
The Key West sunset snorkel to book is Fury’s Rum and Reggae: a three-hour catamaran trip that snorkels the reef late in the afternoon, then pours rum punch, beer, wine and champagne for the sail home as the sun sets. It costs $57 per person on Viator (prices on this page checked November 2026), left at 16:00 on the November date we checked, and is rated 4.4 from 399 reviews on Viator. Check-in is at the Fury booth on the pier behind Opal Key Resort & Marina, 241 Front Street. Our review
You do not snorkel at sunset itself. Every trip here puts you in the water in daylight and saves the sunset for the ride back, which is when the bar opens.

Fury Rum and Reggae, and its GetYourGuide twin
Fury sells this sailing twice. On Viator it is its own listing, Rum and Reggae. On GetYourGuide it is the evening option of Fury’s Reef Snorkeling with Drinks and Sunset Option, also $57 per person, and that listing is rated 4.5 from 615 reviews. Either way you check in at 241 Front Street 30 minutes before departure with photo ID, and you must know how to swim.
The crew gives instruction before you get in, and the gear and reef-safe sunscreen are included. Towels are not, and nor is a wetsuit: Fury rents those seasonally for $15. Fury’s listing promises reggae on the way out and keeps the rum punch for the way back. In low-star reviews of the Fury reef trips the recurring complaints are a crowded boat, choppy water that spoils the visibility, and short time in the water; Fury’s listing gives snorkel time as about 30 to 60 minutes. Our review of the GetYourGuide listing
Two reefs at sunset: check the dates first
Sunset Watersports’ 2 Reef Snorkel Tour & Sunset Cruise has the highest rating of the reef-and-sunset trips we review, 4.7 from 210 on Viator, at $75 per person. It stops at two reef sites and then sails a sunset cruise with draft beer and wine. The catch is the calendar. When we checked in November 2026, Viator’s schedule showed no departures until 7 March 2027, and the same trip on GetYourGuide, 2 Reef Snorkel With Sunset Cruise ($70), had nothing bookable before 31 January 2027. If you are visiting in late 2026, book Rum and Reggae; if you are coming in spring or summer, this is the one to look at first. Our review
Fury’s Double Dip, with two snorkel stops, also has a sunset option, but only seasonally from March through August.
Dolphins at sunset
Sunset Watersports’ Dolphin Watching and Snorkeling Sunset Cruise on GetYourGuide is $80 per person and rated 4.4 from 575 reviews. The boat looks for dolphins first, then stops near the small islands around Cottrell Key in the Key West National Wildlife Refuge for a snorkel, and sails back at sunset with draft beer. Its first bookable date was 9 November. This is a refuge snorkel, not the outer reef, and several low-star reviews describe poor visibility or a snorkel cancelled by currents, though even those tend to praise the sunset. Dolphins are never guaranteed. Our dolphin snorkel page compares every dolphin trip. Our review
A quieter sunset: the schooner
The 15:30 afternoon option on Danger Charters’ half-day trip sails a schooner into the calm, shallow backcountry of the Key West National Wildlife Refuge with no more than 20 guests, splits the afternoon between kayaking and snorkeling, and sails back to Key West with the sunset. It is 4.5 hours and $125 to $135 per person, rated 4.9 from 1,832 on Viator, and leaves from the base of Opal Key Resort & Marina. Wetsuits are included in winter. You will not see the outer reef, but you will not share the deck of a 65-foot catamaran either. Our review
For a small boat that does visit a reef at sunset, Honest Eco’s Sunset Sail, Reef Snorkel and Sandbar is $143 for 4.5 hours, rated 5.0 from 56 reviews on Viator. It has no review page here yet.
Snorkeling late in the day in winter
Sunset trips run in winter too, but the water is cooler and the ride home is wet and breezy. The harbour gauge averages 78 degrees Fahrenheit in November and about 72 to 75 from December to February, and Fury says reef water can dip into the mid-60s. That is when the $15 wetsuit rental makes sense. Cold fronts make winter seas rougher, and some trips move or cancel, so book with free cancellation, which every trip in the table offers. Viator’s schedule also showed no Rum and Reggae departure on 8 November, so check your date. Our November snorkeling guide covers the month.
Pack a towel, a dry long-sleeved layer and a bag for wet things. If the sunset is the main event and swimming is optional, the Fury Glass-Bottom Boat has a sunset sailing with a glass of champagne, but its rating, 3.9 from 618 on Viator, is the lowest of the trips we review.
Who the sunset trips suit
Couples and groups of friends are the core crowd: the trips end with a bar, and the drinking age is 21, with ID. Families can come, with conditions. Fury requires an adult to sign the waiver for anyone under 18 and an adult on board with children 14 and under, and anyone who snorkels must be able to swim. Sunset Watersports’ two-reef sunset listing says you are welcome to stay on board with a drink if you would rather not get in; on Fury, ask before you book. A non-swimmer can also take the glass-bottom boat’s sunset sailing.
Photographers should note that you will be wet and moving when the light is best. Bring a dry bag for your phone or camera, and keep it in the bag until you are back on board.
Seasickness on the way home
The sail back is when people feel it, after a swim and a drink. The CDC suggests sitting away from the bow, watching the horizon (easy on a sunset trip), limiting alcohol and taking motion-sickness medicine before you board, tried at home first.
Sunset snorkel or sunset at Mallory Square?
If you want the Mallory Square sunset crowd on land, take an afternoon trip, which is back by about 16:00; see the afternoon snorkeling page. If you would rather watch the sun go down from the water with a drink, the sunset trips do both jobs in one booking.

Key West Sunset Snorkel: FAQ
What a sunset snorkel is, when it runs and what to bring.
A late-afternoon reef trip that ends with a sunset sail. On Fury's Rum and Reggae you board at 241 Front Street, snorkel a reef the captain chooses, then sail back with rum punch, beer, wine and champagne. It is three hours and $57 per person on Viator (checked November 2026). See our Rum and Reggae review.
You snorkel before sunset, not during it. Every sunset trip here puts you in the water in daylight and keeps the sunset for the ride home, when the bar opens. Fury serves no alcohol until the snorkeling is over.
Yes, Sunset Watersports' 2 Reef Snorkel Tour & Sunset Cruise ($75 on Viator, rated 4.7 from 210), but it is seasonal. In November 2026 Viator showed no departures before 7 March 2027 and GetYourGuide none before 31 January 2027. Fury's Double Dip has a sunset option from March through August. See our two-reef sunset review.
Sunset Watersports' Dolphin Watching and Snorkeling Sunset Cruise ($80 on GetYourGuide, rated 4.4 from 575) looks for dolphins, snorkels near Cottrell Key in the wildlife refuge and sails back at sunset. Dolphins are never guaranteed. See the dolphin snorkel page.
It can feel cool, and you sail home wet. The harbour gauge averages about 72 to 75 degrees Fahrenheit from December to February, and Fury says reef water can dip into the mid-60s. Fury rents wetsuits seasonally for $15 and Danger Charters includes them in winter. Bring a towel and a dry layer.
A swimsuit, a towel (Fury does not supply one), a dry long-sleeved layer, photo ID and a card for tips. Fury provides snorkel gear and reef-safe sunscreen, and you must know how to swim. Groups of eight or more pay an automatic 10 percent gratuity on Fury.
