How to Pay Less for the Same Reef

Four checks before you book a budget trip.

  1. Pick the morning departure

Fury's morning sailing is $49 per person; the afternoon and sunset departures on the same listing are $57.

  2. Compare both networks

The same trip is often sold on Viator and GetYourGuide. Sunset Watersports' morning trip was $4 cheaper on GetYourGuide when we checked.

  3. Price your own date

Sebago's morning sail is $60 on a typical day but showed $50 on one Saturday in November. Open the calendar before you decide.

  4. Add the extras

Tips are not included, towels are not supplied on Fury, and Old Town parking is $6 an hour at the city garage.

Where to save

The Cheapest Ways to Snorkel the Reef

The cheapest boat trip to the reef we found in Key West is Fury Water Adventures’ morning snorkel at $49 per person, the same price on GetYourGuide and Viator (checked November 2026). It is the lowest per-person price for any trip in our data, snorkel or not. Book Fury’s reef snorkel on GetYourGuide and you get the better-rated copy of the trip: 4.5 from 615 reviews, against 4.2 from 704 for the same trip on Viator. If you only want to see fish, the shore at Fort Zachary Taylor Historic State Park costs less again: the park lists $2.50 for anyone who walks or cycles in. Our Fury review →

The cheapest reef trips, side by side

These are per-person prices for two adults. On Viator that is the typical schedule price; on GetYourGuide it is the price on the first bookable date.

Fury’s trip lasts three hours on a 65-foot catamaran. You check in 30 minutes before departure at the Fury booth on the pier behind Opal Key Resort, 241 Front Street. The price covers snorkel gear, instruction, soda and water, and beer, wine and mimosas once everyone is out of the water. The afternoon departure (with margaritas) and the evening one (with rum punch and the sunset on the way back) are sold on the same listing for $57, so choosing the morning saves you $8 each.

Sebago comes next. Sebago’s morning snorkel sail with mimosas and breakfast has a typical Viator price of $60, but the schedule showed $50 for Saturday 14 November. Its GetYourGuide copy, the three-hour morning reef snorkel with mimosas, was also $50 on its first date, though it has only five reviews so far. Breakfast is listed on the Viator version; the check-in office is on Lazy Way Lane between Conch Republic and Schooner Wharf. Our Sebago review

Sunset Watersports sells its breakfast trip on both networks at different prices. The GetYourGuide listing was $55; the Rise and Reef listing on Viator was $59 and carries more than twice the reviews. Both include a light breakfast and gear, and the operator asks you to arrive 60 minutes early. Our Sunset Watersports review covers the boat; our Fury vs Sunset Watersports guide puts the two operators head to head.

What you give up at $49

The low price is real, but the trip is built for volume. Here is what the cheaper ticket leaves out.

  • Breakfast. Fury’s morning trip serves drinks after snorkeling, not food. For $6 to $11 more, the Sunset Watersports and Sebago morning trips include breakfast.
  • Time in the water. Fury’s listing puts snorkel time at about 30 to 60 minutes at one stop, and the captain picks the spot by the day’s weather. If you want two stops, Fury’s Double Dip is $73; our double-dip page explains the difference.
  • Space on board. Lower-star reviews of the Fury trip mention a full boat, a talk about tipping at the start, crew pushing souvenir photos, and rough days when the boat stopped somewhere that felt more like shallow water than a reef.
  • Drinks you may not use. Alcohol is only served after snorkeling. A few reviewers who don’t drink felt the price bought them little beyond the snorkel itself.
  • The small things. Towels are not supplied on Fury, wetsuits are a seasonal rental, and gratuity is not included. Fury adds an automatic 10% gratuity for groups of eight or more, collected at check-in.

None of that makes the reef different. Every operator here chooses the site on the day, and nobody can promise turtles or a particular reef at any price.

Five ways to pay less

  1. Sail in the morning. On Fury it is $8 cheaper than the afternoon or sunset departure on the same listing.
  2. Compare the twin listing. Many Key West trips are sold on both Viator and GetYourGuide. Sunset Watersports’ morning trip was $4 less on GetYourGuide; Fury costs the same on both, but rates higher on GetYourGuide.
  3. Check your own date. Sebago’s morning sail was $10 under its typical price on one November Saturday. Prices move by day and season, so the calendar on the listing is the only number that counts.
  4. Read past the headline. Some listings show a from-price that applies to almost no dates. Our snorkeling cost page shows examples and the full price ladder.
  5. Leave the car. Fury does not provide parking at any check-in point. The city’s Old Town garage at 301 Grinnell Street charges $6 an hour or $48 a day, plus tax. If you are staying in Old Town, walking to the dock saves that.

The nearly free option: shore snorkeling at Fort Zach

You can snorkel in Key West without a tour. The usual spot is the beach at Fort Zachary Taylor Historic State Park. The park lists $2.50 per person on foot or by bike, $4.50 for a car with one person, and $6 per car of up to eight people, with a further 50 cents per person in the park’s fee wording. It opens at 8 a.m. and closes at sundown every day.

Expect a different experience from a boat trip. Rocks just offshore draw fish, but you will not reach the offshore reef, which Fury’s FAQ places about seven miles out on the Atlantic side. The shoreline is coral rock and jetties, so water shoes help, and visitors are advised to stay away from the outer rocks when the surf is up. You bring or rent your own mask and fins. Our shore snorkeling guide covers where to get in and what to bring.

Whichever way you go, NOAA advises mineral sunscreen with zinc oxide or titanium oxide, or a rash guard, and asks snorkelers never to touch or stand on coral. Fury requires reef-safe sunscreen on its trips and hands it out on board.

Promo codes, Groupon and coupons

We quote only the prices Viator and GetYourGuide show on the day we check. We don’t carry promo codes, Groupon deals or coupons, and we haven’t tested any. If you find a code somewhere else, compare its final price against the platform price for the same date and departure, and check the cancellation terms too: the GetYourGuide Fury listing lets you cancel free up to 24 hours ahead.

When the cheapest trip is the wrong one

  • You can’t swim. Fury’s listing says you must know how to swim to snorkel. The stay-dry option is the glass-bottom boat at $64; see our glass-bottom boat page, or the beginners page for trips that suit nervous swimmers.
  • You want breakfast or a smaller boat. Pay the extra $6 to $11 for Sunset Watersports or Sebago, or look at the schooners on our best tours page.
  • You are a group of four to six. A private boat can come close to shared prices per head once you split it; our cost page does the maths.

For anything else on a budget, start with the Fury morning departure or Sebago’s sail, and check the price on your own date before you book.

What Snorkelers Say About Fury's Reef Trip

4.5/5 from 615 verified GetYourGuide travelers

Ratings and review counts are the operators' live figures on Viator and GetYourGuide, checked in November 2026, and shift slightly day to day.

"It was great!! So relaxing and the crew were wonderful. Beautiful day!"

GetYourGuide traveler

"A bit unlucky with the weather but what can you do. Made the most of it and still managed to get out to a reef even though very rough sea. Enjoyed the experience and had a great time."

Jennifer

"100% recommend, beautiful sunset, high-quality service. The crew was very nice and very helpful. It was a beautiful day."

Katarzyna

"The boat was very comfy, the staff was kind, resourceful, and helpful. Such a nice experience !"

GetYourGuide traveler

"Good lively guides, the snorkelling area was good and we saw plenty of fish and a sea turtle but the trip seemed to be a bit more focused on the free drinks. Didn’t like the big speech on the tips at the start of the trip."

GetYourGuide traveler

"Even though other boats were taking people to the reef, ours didn't for some reason. The spot where we snorkeled wasn't interesting at all—it felt like I was just snorkeling anywhere else in the shallows. You should have canceled the activity if you couldn't deliver the service."
